I have to explain just a little how Valentine's Day has been expanded for my Western friends. The way Valentine's day works in South Korea...WOMEN, not men, are supposed to do the gifting for their intended. So on February 14th, women are the initiators not the men.
Then comes White Day, on 14 March. On White Day, men are supposed to purchase either cookies, candies, white marshmallows...or something a little more intimate or expensive for an expression of love.
Ah, but then there is Black Day, on 14 April...where individuals who didn't receive anything on Valentine's Day or White Day are given Pepero's OR the singles that did not recieve anything can gather for a celebratory type of pass-over and partake in Jjajangmyeon (짜장면), white Korean noodles with black bean sauce (hence the name), to commiserate their singledom.
Who thought it could be so complicated being single?
